Behold! Hilary Jolly!

Here she is. The one, the only,

Hilary Bowler Jolly

That's right. And you know what? She's absolutely PERFECT!

I asked Hilary to marry me on Christmas Eve, 2001 (for all the Scrooges, that's December 24). She said yes, and now that our wedding is over (it was June 21, 2003), the marriage is just beginning.

The Story

This is how it all started, folks. Hilary and I went to the same high school. I first noticed her when I was a senior. She was in a class that met right next to mine. I noticed her that one time, and then I started seeing her all over the place. I'd heard about her before because she was in the "running" for our class valedictorian, and you know how much I love the smart ones.

So I thought about asking her to our senior prom, and of course, I didn't. It's not so much that I chickened out, though that was part of it. I didn't really know her...at all. And I was already sort of going "steady" with another girl, and I was supposed to go to the prom with her. Starting to sound like a teen movie yet? Just wait, in a minute it's going to look like "You've Got Mail!" (note - I've never actually seen that movie, so maybe I'm wrong about it being like that, but just wait, you'll see what I'm talking about).

Now, it's the week of graduation, and we're doing our graduation practice and I'm seeing her a lot because she's the valedictorian (yeah, she got it!). And then it's graduation night, and one of my friends is the salutatorian (if you don't know, that's sort of the runner-up to valedictorian). My friend is going to Hilary's house later that night to drop in, so I decide to tag along. This is fun.

Happy Happy Joy Joy!
I see her, then chicken out, and go home (well, granted, my girlfriend was with me when I went to her house, so it's not a complete chicken out). I did say hi to her, but I didn't see her again until the end of the summer when some friends were throwing a party. People were exchanging contact info, and Hilary was there, so I ended up switching e-mail addresses with her. Oh boy...

Well, I didn't end up e-mailing her except once or twice, but it wasn't really anything more than to say hello. Then, it's February of 2000, the year after we graduated. I'm not dating anyone at the time. I finally (read - reluctantly) downloaded AOL Instant Messenger. I couldn't seem to contact any of my friends unless I was on there, so I gave in. I started putting in AOL e-mail address of friends of mine that used AOL. Hilary's address just happened to be AOL.

About two weeks later, she comes online. She's at home for her school's spring break and it's the first time she's used her screen name since August. Talk about timing! We started talking online a little bit, and then a lot. So, I'm only 45 minutes away from home at my school, so I decide to go home that weekend and make it a date. We had a really great time that weekend, so much fun that...well, add some years plus lots of good memories and you've got where I am today - married to the world's most wonderful little lady.
